Sue Moser Boggs - Biography
Once upon a time….there was an only child who liked to draw and read and dream. She grew up and joined the “real world”.
That world included marriage, raising a family, church involvement, helping with the family building business, secretarial work, and fifteen years in transportation sales and freight brokerage.
All of those experiences had value, and certainly I was busy, but there was always a small voice saying, “Someday, I want to be an artist.” There was a dawning realization that I wasn’t getting any younger, and if I really wanted to be an artist, I had better get started.
As a first step, I went to the library and checked out books on art. I read lots of magazines and books. But at some point, I needed to actually do something. Since I had always been fascinated with the glow that can be achieved with watercolor, I signed up for weekly watercolor classes at the Sawtooth Center for Visual Art in Winston-Salem.
Soon, I discovered workshops. I have studied with many well-known and respected artists and learned a variety of techniques and different approaches. My main focus has been watercolor, but with interest in acrylics and collage as well.
The goal is to create pieces that are exciting and authentic to me, expressing who I am.
Seeking to broaden my horizons and to give back to the arts community, I joined several arts organizations and got involved, serving in various capacities on committees and boards.
To compare the strength of my work against that of other artists, I began to enter competitions. My work has been accepted into juried shows and won awards with the following organizations:
• Southern Watercolor Society
• Watercolor Society of North Carolina
• Associated Artists of Winston-Salem
• Muddy River Art Association
• Davie County Arts Council
• Arts United of Davidson County
